NYC Coffee Shops open on New Year’s Day 2013

New Year’s Day, of all major holidays, is the one most likely to engender a desire for coffee, given the nature of most people’s previous night celebrations, some of which perhaps extend right up until the time they decide to head out for said coffee.

Parlor Coffee | Williamsburg
One of our favorite new shops of 2013, open only for nine weeks, is Parlor Coffee. They’ll be open from 10am-3pm, serving their self-roasted Colombia Pedregal – espresso drinks only.

Another Williamsburg shop, offering food and coffee, Toby’s Estate Coffee, will be open from 8:30am – 6pm.

Lark Cafe | Church Ave | Ditmas Park

The other one-off shops we know about are Naidre’s Cafe in Park Slope, open at 8am on New Year’s Day. Barclay’s Center neighbor Hungry Ghost will be serving their standard Stumptown coffee, pastries, and sandwich menu from 8am on, while Ditmas Park’s Lark, another Stumptown shop, will get you going by 10am. If you live in Bed Stuy, drag yourself over to Daily Press between noon and 6pm. Another Park Slope shop, 40 Weight Cafe, sharing space with Sweetwolf Restaurant, on the corner of 6th Ave and 12th St, is open – not sure about the restaurant.

Kávé Espresso Bar & Event Space | Shops at the Loom | Bushwick

The vaguely tropical, cavernous Kave Espresso Bar on Flushing Ave in Bushwick is available from 10am on. Prospect Heights denizens can scratch their itch at Sit & Wonder, yet another Stumptown shop, that offers a Hangover Helper.

Gasoline Alley, Lafayette St

In addition to their Intelligentsia coffee and Dough doughnuts, the kombucha on tap might be helpful for recovery at NoHo’s Gasoline Alley, opening their beautiful shop at 9am. Washington Heights African coffee specialists Cafe Buunni are open now.

Both Everyman Espresso branches will be open from 9am-5pm, 13th Street and SoHo, while Park Slope’s Crespella, also with two shops, will be available from 9am-3pm with Stumptown coffee and crepes.

Kaffe 1668 | Greenwich St | Tribeca North

Holding down the west TriBeCa fort, Kaffe 1668’s two Greenwich St branches, north and south are both open today. Another two-shop enterprise, both Sweetleaf Long Island City and Williamsburg are open until 6pm.

Joe the Art of Coffee | Waverly Pl | West Village

The largest mini-chain of all, Joe the Art of Coffee, is opening all branches starting at 9am except for Joe Pro Shop and the Columbia University location, while four-location Cafe Grumpy will open all branches at 9am except for the Lower East Side shop which will get you going at 10am. Blue Bottle Coffee is closed city-wide on New Year’s Day, but if you have a hankering for their coffee, you can get it at Lower East Side’s Lost Weekend NYC, from 10am-4pm. Irving Farm‘s three Manhattan locations open at 9am.

We’ll try to keep this updated, but you can always find the most recent information on our Twitter feed.
